Wired about your wireless

I love a wireless keyboard and mouse! It makes for a tidy desktop and the two look sharp next to the (small) 17 inch LCD monitor. The problem I have with the wireless technology is the battery replacement for the low end price point models. I may have a nice clean desktop, but I am buy AA or AAA batteries like they are going out of style.

So I searched and search and found a low price point model ($64 to be exact) that came with three sets of rechargeable batteries. One set for each the keyboard and mouse, and a third for the recharge station, which was embedded into the receiver. A brilliant idea – a wireless keyboard, a wireless laser mouse and a built in recharging station, all in one, but one big problem – the usability. The keyboard missed about every third keystroke and the mouse was jumpy. I tried brand new batteries and with the same results. The product went back the next day.

I then found a friend with the wireless Logitech Dinovo Edge keyboard. This was one sweet keyboard and mouse. The keyboard was silent and it has a recharge station. It never missed a keystroke and looks sharp on the desk. This product is not in the low end price range, but not horrible. You can find it for around $175 these days for both a keyboard and a mouse. You can bet that a new Dinovo is in my near future.

My recommendation is to try before you buy (if possible) and make sure you take into account the battery usage.
