Customer Reviews

I love this laptop!

I bought this laptop 2 months ago and I am still loving it! Keep in mind, this is a huge laptop and finding a case for it may be difficult. I did buy a case on Amazon, you can read my review of that case if it is still for sale. The gig of dedicated graphics memory is great and it can run games like the Sims 3 with no problems. I was not excited about it coming with Vista, but honestly I haven't had any problems with Vista and I am used to it now. My bio-security finger print thingee works really well and the web cam is pretty good quality. You can use the bio-scan for all of your passwords online if you want, so that's a nice feature if you are forgetful like me. It plays movies and Netflix really well and the display is beautiful and clear. I like to do a lot of things online, like play games, while watching a movie on a second screen and this can handle it. Everything I did before is so much faster now. Example of what I might do with it: Play Winster on the second screen (with more than one window open) and then watch a Netflix streaming movie on the laptop, no problem. One warning: Acer laptops come loaded with TONS of extra software and it took a while to clean it up. I knew that going in so I wasn't shocked or upset. This takes up a lot of space so it does need to be cleaned.

No Virtualization Technology

How can Acer expect us to pay this much for a machine that fails to implement the specs of the chip it comes with?

If you want to run XP mode in Windows 7, you are out of luck!

Do you really want to be embarrassed by such a foolish manufacturer?

Look for something with better BIOS support!

Worse computer experience I ever had

I have been buying windows based PC's and notebook computers for close to 20 years now and

I can honestly say that my experience with Acer and this product was one of my worse.

I started having issues with my computer a year ago a few weeks after I received it.

There were certain keys on my keyboard that would not register when I pressed them.

Then the dvd/cd drive would not recognize discs when placed within the drive.

After repeated tries it would eventually read the disk.

But my major issues started when I had to travel with the computer, while in an airport

the computer refused to recognize the wireless modem. At the time I was having major issues

with my bank and a missing wire transfer of 10,000 dollars. So, it was critical to have access to my online

account. Now, I know the computer was not designed for traveling and that was the only and last

time that I traveled with it. Soon after this the computer failed to boot the windows operating system.

So, I was starring at a black screen. Calling customer support, I found myself speaking to a Indian call

center. Now this is not a bad thing but when you are having issues with your computer you do not

want the added issues of communication and language to get in the way. I was told by the gentleman on the phone

that Acer did not have any local authorized technicians where I can have the system serviced and that all repair

issues were taken care out of their service center in Texas. So, I would have to ship my computer to Texas. So, with

shipping and repair time it well could be over a month before I would get my system back. Needing my computer for some take home work and home research, I was unwilling to part with the computer for over a month. (For many, their computer is just as critical as having their car for work. How many people would be willing to do without their car for a month for repairs without a loaner?)I took it to a local tech who was able to get it to boot with Windows so I could have access to my files and information(money out of my pocket). However, it soon developed another issue, it would shut down every time I placed a DVD into the drive after a few moments of viewing.

After the repeated issues with this computer and Acer's customer service and tech support I decided to buy another computer and could not be happier. Now, I speak to people in North America and if I have issues I can take it to local authorized repair techs. I understand that I may have just received a bad computer, that happens. But what made matters worse was Acer's system of repairs. Acers may be a cheap computer for your money if you are on a budget but remember you are not just buying a computer for it's price but how a company responds when you have issues and problems. For this reason I could not recommend this product or products from Acer.
